Overview

In a buck regulator, the average output voltage, is less than the input voltage. Compared to linear regulators, these type of regulators are highly efficient - as much as 95%. During the BJT on phase, The inductor stores the energy and when the BJT is off (due to the pulse) it dissipates it across the load through the diode. During this time the inductor current falls.
