Overview

: In this network, let us assume that the switch S has been in position A for a time long enough for the current in the inductance L to have attained steady state value of  E_1/R in the direction indicated. We know the current through L is constant and therefore the voltage drop across L is zero. Now the switch S is moved to position B at time t = t0 (which can be assumed to be 0). We need to find the current in the inductance over time from t = 0 until it reaches the steady state which will be equal to (E2/R) in the direction opposite when S was in position A, for the polarities indicated.
